My view on games since late 2011 Empty
PostSubject: My view on games since late 2011   My view on games since late 2011 EmptyThu May 17, 2012 10:53 pm

EVERYTHING I SAY IS MY THOUGHTS, AN OPINION IS NOT WRONG AND IS PERSONAL PREFERENCE, I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT PROBABLY ALL OF YOU DISAGREE ATLEAST TO AN EXTENT AND MAY AGREE ON SOME POINTS BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS MY THOUGHTS AND I'M NOT BASHING ANY GAMES HERE, WHICH IN YOUR EYES COULD BE THE BEST EVER, I'M JUST STATING MY OPINION.

I'm burnt on them. I dont mean to say that the news games are bad or anything but i simply feel that they dont appeal to me whatsoever, battlefield 3 is fun in short bursts but without friends it's boring now and Skyrim i play in huge amounts but not often like 24 hours in 2 weeks every couple of months. Recently i've been playing some classics through emulation on the computer and i have to say i'm damn impressed. Final Fantasy X is as fun as ever and it makes me sad that they just dont make games the way they used too. I think both of the Mikes may understand what i'm saying since they've been playing since the earliest of games, as i have but at a very young age and i played SNES, PSX, N64, Genesis, PS2 all at the same time pretty much. I know this could just be me personally and i appreciate that fact so please dont bash on me for hating on some great games, and i need to make a point, not all games being released right now are bad. Infamous 2 looks damn awesome and i'm considering picking it up but in general games just aren't what they used to be. I love PS2 games at the moment and i still play Super Mario world since that game kicks so much ass. Also, to people who may think that i'm only going down the mainstream and hyped game route, i've tried games with cult followings who believe them to be the best such as STALKER, which i just couldn't get into and personally believe that fallout 3 is the better game, though thats just my opinion but i haven't played more than 5 hours of STALKER and generally when a game takes longer than that to get into, i cant stand it. It's actually difficult to put how i feel into words, especially at 3AM and with a headache but i'm just wondering, has anyone gone through a phase like this? I dont mean a sudden urge to play retro games for 2 weeks, i mean wanting to do that for months and months? Perhaps it's just the seclusion of having friends to play with on PC, i feel it's far superior in terms of gameplay but nothing will beat the multiplayer days i had with my friends here who some of which have "moved on". i have to say i've also learned a lesson that nothing is better than having friends, sure it's something i already knew but the more lessons you learn the more you realise the true meanings like that and it also kind of plays into the whole "money doesn't buy you happiness" thing. I dont really enjoy most story games on the newer platforms to be honest, theres few i've actually really enjoyed but i'm revisiting the games from my child hood atm and i'm having a blast, after the PS4 is released it'll be my departure from PC gaming, it's hard making friends online when you dont have a first friend to start with and believe it or not i'm actually more nervous at speaking to people online than what i am in real life, weird huh? perhaps thats caused from all the trash talkers in the gaming community which is a shame. I'm also doing reviews on classic games at the moment and i'll have a review of what i believe to be one of the best ever, FFX coming soon.

Writing this i went offtopic so much, lol but i tried to keep it short as i could and hope i've said what i need too but i'll take questions if anyone has any and definetly pick up some games to review if people would like me too.

Thanks for reading Smile

PostSubject: Re: My view on games since late 2011   My view on games since late 2011 EmptyThu May 17, 2012 11:19 pm

I agree, for the most part. I do think more games these days are becoming just a vortex of bad games, but the way I see it, there are so many more games being made today than there has been prior, and back when I played on older gen consoles, games would take long to make and would be worth it, unlike today's yearly releases and spin-offs.

I don't really get that type of feeling where I want to play nothing but retro games, mostly because I tend to balance what I play and also control the quality of games I own, not including PSN+ giving me so damn much I can't keep up with.

I just mix current games with retro ones, and I'm sure death would agree especially with his more recent inclusion of his NES to his console collection, and he plays it all the time.

I think you should just try to switch it up and get less hyped over the current money hungry grabs, but there are still good ones out there, it's just rare to find with the majority of uncreative clones running around.

As for lack of people to play with on PC, I'm currently in the process of deciding how to go about my PC situation(s) and I'm usually up for some gaming time during some weeks on PS3. When my PC is sorted, I'll be sure to let anyone know if anyone want's to play there as well. Minecraft shindig? lol Smile

EDIT: As an example of how I mix current with retro, I'm doing the Fallout 3 playthrough for YouTube, whilst playing Fallout 1 on my laptop. Good times. Razz

Alright, I agree with you on most everything, but I'm going to give my experience thus far and thoughts on why this is, which is similar to what you said.

About 6 months ago, coincidentally the same time my friends on xbox stopped getting on as much, I started to not have any fun playing games. So what did I do? Look for an alternative. I started to read again, draw, listen to music, etc. I eventually saved up some money and bought myself a Nintendo 64 along with Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap, and Pokemon Stadium. For a while I was really enjoying it, but then I just stopped playing again, I just didn't feel like it. For the longest time I didn't do anything, but then I decided I wanted to be able to beat my friend at arm wrestling, which this is where it kinda gets off topic, so I started to work out and eat healthier. I eventually started getting bored, and wanted to talk to people, so I joined the forum! While I still haven't played a video game in over a month, it isn't that I haven't wanted to, its that I couldnt (and still cant). I dunno where exactly I was going with this now, but I guess I'm saying that I think the reason why, for me at least, was because I didn't have anyone to game with, and maybe that's what you've gotta do.

Also, I'm the opposite when it comes to making friends. If people online talk *censored* to me, I talk *censored* back, or just mess with them, both in a comical-ish manner, which they'll occasionally send me a friend request and voilĂ , you've got yourself a new friend. Now its possible that its completely different on xbox, but from what I've experienced, its pretty much the same all around. You just have to make them laugh while you kindly insult them, unless they're being complete douchers, then you can just ignore them.

Hopefully some of this made at least some sense.

I guess I don't have to say anything since both Saint and Mike already said how I feel.

lol.

Well back in my day we used to play with rocks, twigs, and the occasional leaf that fell from the tree in our back yard. But once the dinosaurs all died out and the cavemen moved away we started to create civilization as we know it and before long we had electronic video games. Ah yes, the good ol days.

Then came the dark ages, the great xbox beast was created, and what once was a symbol of hope, faith, and desire to do good was transformed into an icon of defeat, failure, and stupidedness. I'm talking of course, of Halo. I played this "Halo" once, and after getting killed by "a tree" and "your mom" I decided that retro gaming was where it would always stay, because only a plumber can truly satisfy me.

Today, I play these current games, trying to keep up with my friends, but in order to keep my sanity I created THE TOWER OF DEATH which is a tower of retro consoles all wired to one tv, so at any time I can play any retro game my heart craves without having to plug in anything. So, when I get that crave, I pop in some Kirby 64 or Megaman or Monster Rancher or Super Starsweep or Bad Dudes or Ecco The Dolphin or Castlevania or E.T. (lol jk) or Bomberman or Final Fantasy I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X X-2 XII XIII XIII-2 or Jaws or Ratchet and Clank or Sonic The Hedgehog or Rampage or Parappa The Rapper or Legend of Zelda or Crash Bandicoot or Spyro or Super Mario & Duck Hunt and revisit my childhood awesomeness.

And as for talking to people online, you all know I don't create borders, and don't intend on pushing away anybody. That is just the way I was made, and I embrace every person on this Earth no matter how mean they sound over a microphone. But trolling is always fun, too. Wink

We really should get a set day once a week where everyone gets on MC Very Happy I'd prefer actually playing in the adventure type rather than creative as i've done that with a few friends before and is surprising very fun.

This will happen one day, I promise it, right after myself and death do our own first ever multiplayer survival of the game for the first time, firstly.
