This is my first commentary! Go easy on me. I'm gonna do other things (Console) once I get something to record with. If anyone knows a better recording program for PC, then do please share, it would be much appreciated! Heck, anything that would make this better, like Video editing, would be nice.

And man does it feel weird to listen to myself talk.

Yes, you'll get used to this. Razz (I'm still in the process)

Aside that, I can't give as much advice being that I've been doing commentary for less than a year, but I think just acting as you would around friends or family, just being laid-back, is all you really need to do.

I mean, I'm no famous commentator or watched by many, but I think when I act the way I do in my videos, say the insane and stupid things I say many times, I feel people get entertained by it, or at least I'd hope they do.

You reminded me a lot like death did a while back when he also first began, and personally I thought he evolved (pardon the Pokemon pun) into a much more entertaining character of a commentator. I began my commentaries somewhat slowly with a mix of seriousness and comedy, but as soon as began the Let's Plays, I knew that I had to bring something that would changed my video from being "another playthrough" to a "MADMike playthrough". Take my opinion lightly given I've done this for a shorter amount of time, but I felt experienced enough to give minor advice. As for recording software and whatnot, I wouldn't be as much of help there as someone else would, so my apologies.

Just say and do exactly what entertains you, and you'll find that others enjoy it as well. Smile

What's this? death is evolving!
bum..bum..bumbum...bum..bum..bumbum..bum..bumbum..bumbumbumbum PSWEEEEE---- It's a Humblesaur!

Yeah I definitely appreciate that compliment, especially from somebody who has sat through my entire evolution from commentating like a high person to commentating like a particularly excited high person. But if anybody knows how I've evolved it would be Mike, so thanks Wink

I think I have a good angle on this so hopefully this advice can help you out. What Mike said is very important, you have to be like yourself in order for audiences to appreciate you. However, what's important now is learning how to express yourself. Nobody wants to listen to "hey...this is death...and this is a Let's Play" they want to listen to "WHAT GOING OWWWWWNNNNNNNN THIS IS DEATH COMING TO YOU WITH ANOTHER, ACTION PACKED, SLIGHTLY DISTURBING LET'S PLAY."

Now obviously, you don't have to be that ridiculous. But you have to at least capture your audience, so the first 5 seconds are the most important by FAR. Also, if you are anything like me, you'll have to force it before it comes naturally. For a bit I was in this stage where I forced everything, and it sounded really fake, but I eventually learned how to be myself AND be loud. Nevertheless, you'll learn this all just from practicing Wink

And then, we'll soar. It doesn't matter what you've done, what I've done, what has happened and what is about to happen. I know, it hurts. But the truth is, I don't care anymore. I don't care because I have something far more important to care about now. I have you, and you are everything I'll ever need and ever wanted. So, we'll leave that all behind, we'll make our own destiny, together, and then, we'll soar.

Well, to be honest, I wasn't being loud because my parents were asleep in the room across from mine. But I'll give all of this a go! Thank you both for giving me the advice, I'll try to implement it when I take a swing at this again, though I still feel weird listening to myself talk. I think for the most part, I'm better at making jokes while talking to other people though, so, it's kinda hard with a Pokemon game. I'm sure someday I'll get use to it, though. Smile

This is almost exactly how I am, and still am, as shown with playthroughs featuring myself and Mike.

When you playthrough games that have characters that speak to you like in a Fallout game you get those opportunity for adding the zing your salsa needs. . Even something like in RDR where I was about to commentate about what happened, but simultaneously make fun of certain situations, as if I were in a room with friends. It's game dependent.

Sometimes the game choices help you feel a lot more comfortable commentating, it's not a huge difference, but a subtle one that may help in the future.

Yup. Who knows, maybe I'll do a New Vegas playthrough. I found one for about $13 at Gamestop. I've just gotta wait to get a recording thingumajig. And yes, that's what they are called now Razz
