The Last of Us Movie

Sony confirms that a Last of Us movie will be made.

I guess I can't blame them, since everybody's reaction to the game was "this should be a movie!" and the actors who played the characters in the game were such good actors in the first place that you could make a movie out of them. But is it really a good idea?

If they do it wrong, they could kill the game and the movie at the same time. If they do it right....well it could be the best movie adapted from a video game ever. (even though I really like doom. Come on, doom was awesome)

Thoughts?

I think the one reason that gamers aren't pleased with movie adaptations of games is because they never match the experience of the game. Most people want to see the game the way they experienced, but without having to play it. But, the movie won't match their playing style, and people will keep that in their opinions.
However, I think they can do really well with a movie. Although, maybe to pander to the gamers, they could do it about the stuff in the 20 year timeskip, or events after the game.

I think that games are too much of an interactive experience to become a movie. We can see Joel on the big screen, but we won't feel his emotions like we do when we play the game.

However, I think Last of Us could be a great movie. Just not as great as the feeling of running into that doctors office and having to do the deed ourselves.

It's easier to make a game out of a movie, even though that success rate is also small, but it's not as easy to take a great game, or even an average game, and make a good movie out it. I think the whole feeling of it's like a movie should stay that way and not really become one. Good luck to them, but I'm going to hold back until I see it when it's out.

The thing that excites me is that the directors of the game are working with the directors of the movie (or at least that's what I read). Still, I kind of feel the same way as you do just because the game captured us in a way that a movie can't, so to make a movie of it may just be diminishing it. On the other hand, it may bring Last of Us to an audience that doesn't play games.

I for one am going to drag my mom to go see that movie if it is any good, because I've been trying to explain to her my entire life how amazing video game stories are and it's hard for her to grasp it without seeing it.
