I'm trying to understand the science here:

The terminal velocity of a human being is around 120 mph when free falling close to Earth. Skydivers have a larger terminal velocity because they are higher in the atmosphere. However he was free falling from space, so the gravity was so little that his terminal velocity was 729. Or at least, that's what he reached before he breached the atmosphere and hit gravity.

But what does that say for the sound barrier? Close to earth, for instance for a jet, the sound barrier is breached close to 800 mph. But since he was higher up, does that make a difference? It doesn't seem as if he created a sonicboom, which is what would happen if he did break the sound barrier.

I dunno, man. He jumped from the Stratosphere to be more exact. I think he was trying to break the sound barrier, along with some records, but he might not have. I didn't look too much into it, my Science teacher just showed us the first day he was gonna go up before it was canceled and the commentator said something about it.

According to the news, he reached at one point 833.9mph, shattering the sound barrier. He was wearing a pressurized suit, so he didn't hear the sonic boom but it was as any boom extremely loud, and most likely not noticeable by sight because either a) he was too high up or b) his mass is too small to make a large noticeable boom.

But he did break the sound barrier, being the first to do so without an aircraft or vehicle.

Last night was SOOO awesome! The most fun I've had playing a game in a long time.

Just a heads up, next week's CoD Thursday is cancelled, because of Thanksgiving. This will hopefully give you all the time you need to get Black Ops 2, so you can join!
